Slugfest was Will's 1st band playing guitar, singing, and writing. The group, originally named Ravenna Liberation Front or RLF, was formed by Will and his longtime friend and former SCAM member, Jim Brunner, with whom he split the writing and singing duties. The band self-released two recordings and played around the Puget Sound area and eastern Washington. After their drummer quit the band and auditions produced no replacement, Brunner decided to concentrate on school and Will and bassist Steve Okimoto went on to form the rock band Tourmaline.
